(Fiona, Shrek and their Triplets)
Hubby and I took the girls to see the new Shrek movie last night! Our town has a $3.00 movie theater that surprisingly gets all the new movies. You have to arrive 30 minutes early to get a good seat and the seat that you sit in will probably squeak everytime you move, but hey you can’t beat $12.00 for 4 people at the movies! I never know if I am going to get anything out of these type of children/family movies. I have seen all of the other Shreks but I don’t remember leaving the theater with a moral lesson. Even though this Shrek sequel did not get as good of reviews as the others, by the powers that be, I think it was my favorite yet!
Without telling you the whole movie: It all begins with Shrek and Fiona (his wife) living the “perfect suburban life” and Shrek secretly saying….B O R R I N G! He longs for a day to himself so he makes a pack with Rumpelstiltskin (the resident shady character). Of course he does not read the fine print and he loses his old life. In true fairy tale style, only a kiss of true love will set things right again and so the adventure began!
How many times have I joked with my girlfriends about my days “BK” (before kids). We so eloquently call this era “POCKETBOOK AND KEYS”, because that was all we had to worry about back then (LOL)! Looking at the movie, I could totally relate to just wanting to get away or do something exciting. I too may have forgone reading the fine print and just like Shreck fallen prey to the infamous 80/20 rule. Haven’t heard of the 80/20 rule? Well, it goes like this: You give up 80% of what you have for the glimmering, glitzy, blingy 20% only to later realize how good you had it with the 80%! I know, looking at it that way makes it seem like a no brainer but people make decisions all the time and lose the best things they ever had.
So Divas, tomorrow when I listen to the younger, single girls at work chat about their fabulous weekends filled with traveling and designer hand bags, I too will ponder over MY fabulous weekend. I travelled around my neighborhood on a family walk, attended the red carpet Shrek movie premier at the $3.00 movie, cooked meals, planned meals and schedules for the week ahead and did “designer laundry” ( not really designer just makes it sound really cool)! However, in true fairy tale style, kisses from two little princesses really DO set my world right again!
Our everyday lives can get mundane and many times all we do goes unnoticed. Let’s not even go into parenting and how sometimes I can’t tell if what I am doing is making a difference or I worry if I am even a good Mommy. Divas, in spite of all that, keep on doing good and trust God for the results, the excitement AND the bling! It’s coming! (Don’t forget to pack lunches and pick out clothes for next week.)
Galatians 6:9 (New International Version)
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Nice post! Like Shrek, tons of people don't miss a good thing(s) until they're gone. Let's not wait until they're gone to realize the good (great) things we have right in front of us!!!

Thanks for the review, I'll be sure to check this one out. I've always been a fan of the other Shrek films and a $3 movie theater?!?! That's awesome!
And for what it's worth: the grass is ALWAYS greener. I'm currently single but would love to settle down and have some little ones. But in the meantime, I think it's important to focus on the things that make us truly happy in life.
Stopping in today from the Lady Blogger's Tea Party (always a day late, hehe!). Enjoy the rest of your week

I keep reading and getting to know you and finding things to say in response to your great posts!
I've learned to really appreciate and enjoy what I have. I've lived chaos and the single life and the party girl style… don't want to go back. I have exactly what I've always wanted- a modest home where I can raise a family and love my husband and be safe and secure. I'm a suburban mom with a minivan and a kid who plays soccer… the one stereotype I really never thought I woul be! Ha! But life is simple and simple is beautiful and simple allows me more opportunity to focus on others with compassion and to let God live through me, you know?
