I gotta STOP hitting the snooze button!

Divas, I simply HAVE to stop hitting the snooze button! My mornings have NOT been as productive in the last 2 weeks and I have been missing my morning yoga with Rodney Yee (it is an awesome Yoga DVD called AM Yoga). So what to do? I researched all kinds of stuff about how hitting the snooze button actually makes you more tired–well I could have told them that! What I want to know is how do I stop being so DOG tired when the clock goes off! Here is what I found that is easy to implement:

1. Go to bed earlier. Well we all knew that one was going to be on there! But in all honesty, I need to stop piddling around at night and simply take it down! One of the reasons that I am so tired in the morning is that I am probably NOT getting enough sleep.

2. Put the alarm clock across the room. Ok, so I do NOT have my alarm clock on the side table beside my bed. I have it on my dresser and I have to get out of bed and turn it off. Divas, that does NOT stop me from hitting snooze. This morning, I did a ballet lounge from my bed to the dresser and hit that button so eloquently at least 3 times!! By the third time I was just plain tired AND evil! ( Those two seem to go together for me just like a two year old. LOL!) Anyway, I am moving my alarm clock all the way over to the TV stand. Research shows that getting up and walking around sends information to your brain to wake up. I will see how that works tomorrow.

3. Drink water as soon as I get up. People in several eastern countries drink 1.5 liters of water first thing in the morning before they consume any other food or beverages. I think 1.5 liters is pushing it for me but there is actual scientific evidence to support drinking water first thing in the morning. Research concludes: water rids the body of toxins that have been stored over night and water aids your digestive tract and helps start your day off right. As soon as I read this today, I went and grabbed a glass of water. I actually feel more energetic already!

4. Appreciate waking up! This is my favorite. Divas, it is such a blessing to wake up! A change in my attitude about getting up in the morning is definitely in order! It is so tempting for me to focus on all the things I have to do in a day and simply forget to simply be THANKFUL! So tomorrow when my feet hit the floor to hip hop hustle across the floor to the TV stand to cut the alarm off, I will praise the LORD for waking up!

    A tip my mom gave me that has proven true for me… block as much light in the bedroom as possible. That might even mean blocking the glow of the alarm clock. The darker the room, the deeper and more restful the sleep.
