Ok so we went to open house last night and school starts tomorrow. Those are two pretty good indicators that summer is officially OVER! I declare, I blinked and here we are again… big yellow busses, schedules and homework.
The realization that summer is over has led me to some reflection about what worked and what didn’t work this summer.
Ok so to focus on the positives, two things really worked well this summer:
1. Going to the beach—we only went for a weekend but it was a lot of fun. Next year, I plan on us staying longer and just relaxing on the beach. The girls played all day with those boogie boards. Beach family time is a great way to spend some summer days!
2. Mommy going on an all-girls trip! I cannot say enough about my big-girls only trip that I took with my friends. We went to Virginia Beach and had a ball. From a comedy show, to all day at the beach, to the cheese cake factory and a tea party, we had big fun. It was ah-mazing to get ready with leisure and eat big girl food while it was hot and without interruptions!
I highly recommend a big girl only trip to all Mommies! A get-away from the hubby AND children was just what the doctor ordered. I am sure it is the treatment for a myriad of issues. Maybe I can get my insurance to pay for the trip next year? (LOL) We all missed our families but I am willing to bet we all came back better prepared to serve in our roles.
So since 2 out of 3 three isn’t bad:
3. If the Lord is willing and the creek don’t rise I will NOT send my girls to a crazy busy all day camp for the entire summer!!!
I know people send their children to all day camps all summer each year but it was just TOO much! I really didn’t get a break from the crazy busy schedule and the girls didn’t really get to sleep in. Maybe it was the camp they went to but whatever the case, if I can help it, we will not do it again! At least not for the entire summer. I am gonna have to get creative with work and call in some of our troops (Grandmas).
I must admit, I am a little disapointed with how tired I feel right now. I know I can should-of and could-of until next year. So, I gotta cut my losses and look forward to the year ahead. Better still, I am elevating my awareness of the little things that clog up my schedule and leave me feeling depleted.
How are you working on NOT over-crowding your schedule for the school year?
Philippians 3:13 (NLT)
13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it,but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,

Oh, I so want an all-girls trip!
We didn't do much camp this summer. I thought I wanted it, but I liked the lazy days!
I can understand not doing an all day camp. My favorite memories of summer were sleeping in and then being lazy. Riding bikes, playing with friends etc.
Sounds like a good summer to me! Its amazing how fast it went by!! Yikes!!!!!! Dont blink!! See ya in a few!
