I put the quote on the left margin of this post as my status one day last week. I had read the quote somewhere on line and I thought it would be good food-for-thought!
Little did I know that I would have a real-life experience of my very own.
Last Saturday was the Honeybee Festival in my small town. The Honeybee Festival is a small outside event full of local crafts people, vendors and entertainment!
My Zumba class and I were slated as part of the entertainment line up! I was UBER excited until…it rained on my little parade, literally. Yeah, Saturday was cold, windy AND rainy.
I was sooooo deflated about the weather. Several of my class members said they were coming to dance with us but I feared that they wouldn’t come due to the weather. I also feared that people wouldn’t even be around to watch or become interested in our class because of the rain.
Not to mention Divas, I had NEVER danced in the rain before! I mean, black girl hair and rain just do NOT mix–I’m jus sayin’. (See my post on ruined when wet). My girls had just had their hair “blowed-out” on Friday so I just about drove myself crazy trying to keep hoods on their heads.
So, I pouted. I was ill as a hornet–uber snappy with the girls.
As my class members started to arrive, I began apologizing to them about the weather (like I could control it). Most of them seemed completely unmoved about the rain and were just happy to be there. Interesting…..
I prayed to God for the rain to stop. When I said my prayer, it was just drizzling. Just after my prayer, the rain picked up. Grrrreat. To make matters worse, the “professional” sound people did not have a cord to hook my I-Pod up. Even more Grrrreat!
Luckily, I had a couple of cords in my car that they could use. However, my car was quite a hump from the stage where we were getting ready to go on in less than 10 minutes. Seriously?
So, with a lump in my throat, I RAN to my car.
As I ran, God worked on my spirit. I noticed that I was running pretty quickly and I was not even winded. I noticed that the moist air actually felt really good as I was running. I noticed that I was ALIVE and WELL. I also realized that the performing the demo was bigger than me.
For the first time in 37 years, I DANCED IN THE RAIN! I let go and just did the one thing that I love to do, dance! People loved it and my class members had a ball.
I have asked God to increase my territory with my dance-fitness women’s ministry. He is doing that by leaps and bounds. When I asked for an increase, I don’t think I thought about dancing in unfavorable conditions. Dancing with perfect hair, perfect weather, and with all eyes on me was my vision.
Dancing in the rain was transcending for me because it wasn’t about me. It was all about the people in my class and those watching who needed what I had to give.
”A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)
Have you ever let go and just danced in the rain (literally or emotionally)?
Here we are dancing to Footloose by Kenny Loggins! So much fun:

You are so the woman… FIRST it was rainy and cold like you said… then you go out there and give your all in front of people! I hope one day I am as cool as you are!
What a wonderful blog Katina! You guys looked great dancing in the rain! Unfortunately I was out of town and unable to attend. Being a working mom (being a mental health clinician and training instructor) of a teenager while managing life's demands can be taxing but your blog helps to put all of those things in perspective and even encourages us to do it with a smile. I'm so glad I've found your blog. I too have a blog, check it out http://www.mochascafe@blogspot.com. Thanks for Zumba, it's been a GOD send! Thanks for sharing your gifts with the world!

Oh, what fun! Glad you were able to turn it into a joyous moment!
Awesome! That sounds (almost) as good as snuggling under the covers during a rainstorm.
