One of my Sister Zumba Instructors started an event called “Cut The CRAP” and I decided to attend! “Cut The Crap” is NOT a destination. It is actually a 21 day challenge to eliminate unhealthy foods from your diet before Thanksgiving!
Most folks try to start healthy habits AFTER the holidays. Take the challenge with me BEFORE the holidays! Even if you over eat on Thanksgiving, it will be easier to get on track if you have already made a habit of “cutting crap” from your diet.
Just think, most Divas, start their Holiday weight gain now, right after Halloween. Tons and tons of candy is consumed during this very week all over the country! CUT THE CRAP while you are ahead!
CRAP stands for…
Caffeine –I like to have a cup of coffee in the morning and actually 1-2 cups of coffee or tea per day are not that bad. It is the Pumpkin Spice Lattes, and all the other sugary stuff that people (me included) tend to put in coffee that is the issue. Also, having more than a couple of cups per day can lead to muscle tremors, rapid heartbeat, nervousness, and depression.
Refined Sugar – Just think of EVERYTHING! Just about everything in the American Diet has sugar in it! My beloved Coca-Colas, cakes, candy and just about every packaged food you can buy in a vending machine.
Alcohol – I have always viewed alcohol as empty calories. I am not one of those people who need alcohol to unwind and have a good time! Just turn on music, and I am ready to dance completely sober! At any rate, limiting alcohol in take is a critical part of cutting the crap.
Processed Foods – Most things that come in a box, jar, can or foam packaging from a fast food restaurant are processed. Most processed foods contain bleached wheat flour like white bread (gasp!). White sugar, white rice, white pasta are all processed and should all be avoided-at least during the challenge and then eaten in moderation afterwards.
Ok so, what can I eat:Things prepared by human hands NOT a machine!
Whole grains!
Fruits!
Veggies!
Lean cuts of meat!
I started today. I didn’t really get hungry but there were brownies at my work lunch meeting. I didn’t eat one and I drank water. To say that I kept looking around like a true addict looking for a hit is an understatement. I just felt unfulfilled at the end of the meal. I wanted that sweet ending.
What amazed me was how much I tried to rationalize with myself on eating just two little Milk Dud boxes! Ya’ll know I wouldn’t have stopped with those two but I was really convicing! Luckily, I did not take my own bait!
Take the Challenge with me! I created this cute button but for the life of me couldn’t figure out how to embed the code thingy. I fumbled with it for over an hour. More productive things to do with my time like preparing food at home since I am CUTTING THE CRAP!

I' m ready to Cut the Crap for 21 days and more. Realizing how it drains me even more. The junk taste good going in but the after effects hurts more. This challenge will be hard but my body will love the out come. I'm all in ladies.. NO MORE CRAP!!!!
Kudos to you. Check out the book 'Eat to Live' Dr. Joel Fuhrman or his website. Life Changing.
Good luck! I may be able to go 10 days but 21 days…I'm impressed! Can't wait to read your final post after completing to see how you felt after the process. Maybe that will be my inspiration to try it!
Stopping over from PYHO
Ooooh…let me think about it for a minute. How long do I have? I don't like making commitments and not keeping them.
Doesn't it feel good, though? I felt so much better when I was on my detox!
ok, but I just baked brownies, so I'll start tomorrow, or maybe the next day
stopping by from PYHO
Way to go!!!! Right now my focus is on some other areas of my life as well as other people. We have to find balance right? Good luck on your challenge though and I hope you have many others to support you! Maybe someday…
OOOH! I like that acronym! I just might have to join you. This sounds hard, I won't lie!
Hi Katina, thanks for letting me know about Cut the Crap! I think we both did just great today by not eating the sweets at the end of the meal. I'll be your support if you'll be mine. Just had an apple for a snack…I'm on my way…only 20 days to go!
Hello Katina,
Thank you. Martha F.
I am definitely in for the Cut the Crap program. I had been wanting to stop eating carbs all together and said I would start Nov. 1st, then we had a B-Day party at the office and there it went so now this is a great incentive for me to stick to it, and I won't try to fool myself.
The challenge is right on time! I have lost 40lbs since January and have hit a plateau. I have to step up my workouts and really cut the things out of my diet that I dont need. This will help me get jump started and reach my desired goal! I am glad to know others who are participating. It's important that we support one another! This morning I used a bit of honey in my oatmeal with, dried cranberries and cinamon instead of sugar
Katina, I am going to work on the “C”, maybe a cup or two less during the day. “A” won't be hard at all. “R” and “P” will really require some thinking and planning, especially when traveling. Thanks for trying to help us do better! Still glad it's only till Thanksgiving!!!
This is a great challenge. I actually started doing this right after Labor Day, so I'm totally on board and will be checking in to see how it's going for you! It's hard but so worth it!
I have done this since March and you feel a lot better.
I have been in strong for 3 days now, and it has been a little tough. I do love my sweets, but I am giving it my all to stick with this. I will try to add the hot baths to assist me with a wonderful night of rest. Thanks for your tips.
